The court conducted a hearing regarding a petition for coordination of individual plaintiff Maui fire cases. The discussion focused on jurisdictional concerns, the authority of the court to establish a common benefit fund, and the enforceability of attorney fee caps within a settlement agreement. Arguments were presented regarding the applicability of Hawaii state statutes and whether the court possessed the power to retroactively modify fee structures after settlement agreements had been finalized and cases dismissed.
